Monday Morning August 6 was when camp started for every highschool player in the State of Michigan. Its the start of a promising season for every coach and player. Expectation are high during this time every team is 0-0 and excited to get the season going. During the first day of camp i had to get some things done. I had to make sure all my practice plans were complete for the first day of practice. It a long day that starts at about 8am and runs to about 8 pm, so as you can see its a long day. On the first day we put in new plays to run durning are evening practice. The morning practice was all special teams.I also had to conduct film study with the quarterback the make sure they were progressing everyday with the plays and making the right decision with the football on every play. It was a lot of work that required long hours, but it was fun and challenging. This is pretty much what i did for the next week while camp was going on.

As summer practice was coming to an end it was time for two a days "football camp" as its called around Detroit. I had to help hand out equipment shoulder pad, helmets, knee pads and visors to the guys that needed them. They players were very excited to get the real season under way. They were tired of practicing with just shorts and cleats. They were ready to hit eachother, play football. Handing out equipment was a long day making sure every player had what they needed to practice with the following day. That coming Monday was when the Fun was about to kick off.
Every day was pretty much the same. The players had to lift weights before practice and watch film after weight lifting, then it was on to practice. As the summer wit on practice had began to get more intense with football camp approaching. If was fun because i got to get experience in perfecting my craft. We had went to a bunch of 7 on 7 camps to improve the passing game. This aspected helped me become a better coach and teacher to the players. Im always a student of the game and my craft is what i want to perfect.
When you are coaching highschool there are going to be situation that come up. This is just part of coaching especially when you are coaching teenage boys at a critical point in their development as a young man. As a coach i think you should try to treat every player the same, but apporach every situation differently. Workiing in Detroit you have to deal with a lot more problems before you get to the field. Its home issues, the company you keep around you and the overall struggle of dealing with the circumstance in detroit. Some days i would have to take kids home cause they didnt have a ride or buy food after practice to cause guys were hungry. I had to realize coaches are much more now they are coaches, mentors, father figures and inspiration to players. These are just some of the things that i experienced Coaching this summer.
The next couple of days evaluation days for the players and coaches. We had to see how good were players conditions, agility, and footwork. For these next few days i took the quarterbacks and did a lot of agility and footwork to see how guys had progressed from the previous. With me going into my Third year of coaching i was very sure on what i wanted to see from my Quarterbacks. Everyday I had a new drill for them to do. Everyday i would evaluate myself to much sure i am teaching the skills to the players to be successfully.
I will talk more about this internship in my internship paper. I will be brief with my writing for now. I had the opportunity to help coach highschool football this pass summer. The experience was great since i already had some experience doing it before. The first day of summer practice was like the middle of june. Us coachs had to introduce are self to the team which official started the season. I was helping out with the quarterback and offensive as a whole. I have some experience since I played quarterback in highschool and college, and i have always had a passion for coaching. I love the x's and o's of football but i understand the other aspects of the game as well.
My internship was coming to an end it had been a fun three weeks were i came very knowledgeable to what it is like to work in an athletic Office. During the end of the week it was tournment time Thursday- Sunday. I got a chance to go to the tournment and be apart of the games and the event. I got a chance to feel what it is like to put in a lot of hardwork to go a long with long hours and see the outcome of the event was very pleasing to me.
Also during my last week i got a chance to work in the Worriors Athletic store. Were they sell candy, chips, soda, as well as t-shirts and other worriors merchandise. It was a good experience i had to cover the shift for someone that didnt come in to work. I had to work the regrister and stock shelfs. It was great, another way for me to gain experience and interact with people. During week three was when the baseball regional was begining and all the hard work that went into the event was complete. I was very pround of my self to see it come together the way it did. With everyone working together to make sure the event for the weekend would be an success.
This was my last week as i stated in my earlier post. It was short but i gained a lot of experience and knowledge from my short time.During this week i did some more touring of the facilities and learn what facility management was all about. The first thing i learned was that facility management and equipment mangement spend a great deal of time together preparing this and making sure facilities are running properly. They do a good job of making sure their is enough space provided for their extra advantage things like cages for baseball, chairs and office equipment. When i wasnt doin that i was answering phones and making copies.
The next couple of days were getting prepared for the baseball regional been hosted by WSU at Eastern Michigan. After i finished the contact list i had to do the bus schudule for the teams, emergency information, important contacts and hotel information. I also had to put together information for tour spots around Metro Detroit. The days were getting longer closer it got to the tournment not leaving the office till 7 most days. The experience i got working on this project was great.
